Its headlights are thinner and more compact than the previous model, giving it an edgy and excellent appearance. A well-balanced rear overhang, short front overhang, long wheelbase, and flowing C-pillar create a well-balanced essential proportion from the side. A 12.8-inch organic EL media display is mounted above the center console. The cockpit was simplified and clean by consolidating many functions into fewer switches. The wood trim that covers the instrument panel expands the area and creates a sense of luxury, and the design wraps around the door panels, giving a feeling of being wrapped in one piece.
Additionally, the world’s first system to project AR navigation onto the front window is available as an option. The real-world scenery in front of the vehicle is projected onto a portion of the navigation screen, and arrows indicate the road to follow. Further, the head-up display overlays an arrow on the scenery to show the road ahead. As the direction of travel changes, the arrow also moves, clearly indicating which way to go at all times.
The steering wheel is equipped with the latest generation inspired by lily flowers, creating a simple yet luxurious feel. The “ambient light” that colors the interior has also been significantly improved. Compared to the previous generation, there are 247 LED light sources in the standard body and 263 in the extended body.
The new S-Class is the first car equipped with left and right rear seat airbags on the backs of the front seats, making it the first car in the world to feature these safety features. The outer edge of the airbag is tube-shaped and expands powerfully with gas, while the inner center takes in surrounding air and expands softly. This allows the system to respond flexibly to various situations, such as the physique of the occupants and the presence or absence of child seats.
In combination with cushion airbags that flip up the front of the center to prevent occupants from crawling into the vehicle in the event of a frontal collision, rear seat safety is enhanced.
In urban areas, rear-wheel steering makes handling easier. The vehicle is powered by two engines: a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel turbo engine with 330 horsepower and torque of 700 Nm and a 3-liter gasoline turbo engine with a mild hybrid motor (with a maximum output of 435 horsepower and 520 torque). Get ready. Four-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission ensure smooth and stable driving in all road conditions. The new S-Class also offers rear-wheel steering, called “Rear Axle Steering.” When traveling below 60 km/h, the rear wheels will tilt up to 4.5 degrees opposite the front wheels, making tight turns easier. Mercedes-Benz S-Class price
The S-Class was launched on January 28th. The price ranges from 12.93 million yen to 17.24 million yen. A limited edition of 540 units of the S500 4Matic Long First Edition (19.38 million to 20.4 million yen) is also available in Japan to commemorate the launch.
