Honda CR-V 2024 Pricing, Review, and Specs

Honda CR-V introduction

Last year, the new Honda earned an immediate 10Best Trucks and SUVs trophy. The CR-V offers reliable performance, plenty of usable space, friendly driving dynamics, front- or all-wheel drive, a 190-hp turbocharged engine, and an optional 204-hp hybrid version. The hybrid powertrain delivers a stellar combined fuel economy of 40 mpg. The CR-V is a superb base-form chassis with modern tech and safety features. Despite stiff competition from the Mazda CX-50, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Kia Sportage, the CR-V is our favorite in the trendy compact crossover segment.

In 2024, what’s new?

Honda will receive a Sport-L trim level for 2024, and prices will rise. The new Sport-L bridges the gap between Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims and is only offered as a hybrid like those two. The new trim level comes with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. This Sport-L has leather seats, a power passenger seat, front and rear parking sensors, a wireless charging pad, satellite radio, driver’s seat memory, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. In addition, the Sport-L comes standard with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system (2.0 inches bigger than the Sport’s) and an eight-speaker audio system that is better than the Sport’s six speakers but below the Sport Touring’s 12-speaker setup.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powering the CR-V produces 190 horsepower. It pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front- or all-wheel drive. This setup is standard on the LX, EX, and EX-L models. The Sport and Sport Touring only comes with the hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors for 204 horsepower. The Sport Touring comes with all-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive.

The Sport Touring Hybrid hit 60 mph at our test track in a respectable 7.9 seconds; the nonhybrid EX-L needed a little extra time and completed the same test in 8.3 seconds. In the CR-V, hill-descent control helps manage the compact SUV’s speed on steep declines at low speeds. The Sport has black wheels, while most other models have 18-inch wheels. A black 19-inch wheel is exclusive to the Sport Touring. While it lacks the handling thrills we love in the Mazda CX-50 and the Volkswagen Tiguan, the new CR-V provides a smooth ride and enough grit to avoid boredom.

Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy

The CR-V’s powertrain options mean you must decide between a 190-hp 1.5-liter gas engine and a 204-hp hybrid unit with a 2.0-liter and two electric motors. The front-wheel-drive CR-V has a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and is EPA-rated at 28 mpg cities and 34 mpg highway, while the Sport Hybrid is EPA-rated at 43 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. On our highway fuel economy route at 75 mph, both models scored 31 mpg. The EPA has more information about the CR-V’s fuel economy.

Comfort, interior, and cargo

The CR-V’s interior is highlighted by a honeycomb-textured insert hiding most air vents. Steering wheel gauges include an analog speedometer and a 7.0-inch display with various menu options. Honda says its new CR-V has improved driving position and improved front seats that reduce fatigue. A large center console bin is between the front seat passengers, and the reclining back seats have an extra 0.6 inch of rear legroom. The center console holds 36 cubic feet of cargo, and the load floor is set lowest on gas-only models to keep 39 cubic feet.

Information and connectivity

The CR-V’s infotainment system features a 7.0-inch LX, EX, and Sport trims touchscreen. A physical volume knob and tuning knob, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are included. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on the EX-L and Sport Touring models. The dashboard doesn’t include a tuning knob, but it has a volume knob along with the navigation, as well as two USB-C ports for passengers and wireless charging for smartphones. A Bose sound system comes with the top-of-the-line CR-V Sport Touring.
